Goats 2009

Sometimes my bucks have their own breeding program going and pay no attention to what I intend. In the fall of 2007 I bred Mokele to Jersey, both purebred Nigerian Dwarfs. I didn't pay much attention at the time but Neil, my mini-LaMancha buck got out two days later. Mokele was out of heat, or so I thought, so all was well. In the spring of 2008, the first kid born out of Mokele was this earless doeling. It was totally confusing until I remembered about Neil.

Here is Rosy's udder this spring. She has the most well-attached udder of all my goats, a true show udder. Plus she came in with 5 pounds of milk, which is twice that of other mini goats. Plus it is the most delicious milk you ever tasted. Not only that, she is only 21 inches tall. This is the perfect goat for a small family. But she is not for sale. Her buck is though. Let me tell you about him. I did not have an unrelated mini LaMancha buck to breed to Rosy last fall so I used my high class mini-Nubian buck, Briar, from Green Gables in Wisconsin. At least he is her size. So Rosy's kids are total mutts. But they have dairy character galore. I am hoping someone who doesn't care about breeding for any particular look will consider Wilbur as a herd sire. We named him Wilbur because he is "some buck". Of course, that means his sister's name is Charlotte. She will be retained.

This is Wilbur and he is ready to go to his forever home for $100.
